Since his first works, Etienne Lopa has become an increasingly well-traveled citizen in the world of words, music and the general art of beauty. Written over the course of three busy years, I’m an Artist! Now Leave Me Alone is his second book of poetry and third major creative project. Translated into this collection are Lopa’s intricate emotions and personal growth, giving readers a reserved glimpse into the truth of his life and bigger picture of his journey as an artist.
The poems in this collection, written between 2020 and 2022, in concision with the conceptualization of Lopa’s debut album, Botanique, document his path through life’s many obstacles. Within the context of his career, the poems provide a fascinating perspective, as Lopa harnesses the struggle inherent in the long creative process of a musical project waiting to be started and shapes it into another outlet for expression.
